St. Philip Statue

A four foot sculpture of our patron St. Philip stands in the church garden near the east entry. Sculpted in plaster and clay by Ed Spires, the original piece was taken to Kenneth Lynch and Sons in Wilton where a mold was made of the statue and then was cast in white concrete.

St. Philip Holding our Church in his Hand

In his left hand, St. Philip holds a model of our church. In his right hand is a scroll, symbolizing knowledge. At his feet, partially wrapped in a cloth, are loaves and fishes which commemorate his asking Christ how the multitude could be fed. A bronze cross runs diagonally across his body symbolizing his crucifixion. The cross and halo were fabricated by Skip's Welding in Norwalk.

St. Philip Statue Dedicated in May 2003

The statue rests on a white concrete pedestal fashioned by parishioners Lorenzo Solano and John Granata. The statue was dedicated the day after St. Philip's feast day, May 3, 2003.

Fr. Boccoccio and Ed Spires the in Garden of St. Philip

Ed Spires is a long-standing member of St. Philip parish and the primary lay force behind the creation of art in our church. His extensive professional background in theater, music and the decorative arts has qualified him for this special mission. He and Fr. Boccaccio worked together as a team for years to create the permanent liturgical art environment of the church.
