Altar Reliquary of Sts. Candidus and Eugenius

Relics of Sts. Candidus and Eugenius are enshrined in the main altar. The reliquary, which is visible from the backside of the altar, was first placed there in 1969 when the church was originally consecrated. Saints Candidus and Eugenius were martyred for their strong beliefs and we are blessed to have this reminder of their faith in our church.

Kateri Tekakwitha Reliquary

Mounted on the wall, encased in marble and lucite, is a relic of Blessed Tekakwitha, the first Native North American to be beatified. She was born of the Mohawk Iroquois nation and lived in what is now Auriesville, New York. Smallpox spread through the Mohawk nation when she was four. When the disease took her parents, she was raised by an uncle. At age ten, Kateria first learned of Jesus from the Jesuit missionaries visiting her village. Years later, she moved to a village in Canada and became loved for her care of the sick and young children. She was baptized at age 20 by a French Jesuit. Although she died before her 24th birthday, she became well known for her gentleness, kindness and good humor and was immediately revered by those who had known her holiness.
